It's just a cap and/or resistor to keep the highs from rolling off when you turn down the volume control on the guitar. There's lots of great info on impedence and resistance in parallel circuits. I rely on a volume pedal though, so I never installed the mod on either of my Tele's.

There are several "cap + resister in parallel" combinations you can try.
Here are three: 1) .0022uF + 220K = Lindy Fralin (on his Web site) 2) .001uF + 150K = TV Jones (in a post on the Gretsch Pages) 3) 330pF + 330K = TV Jones (alternate coombination) I use the Fralin version.
