pickup height
ive been wondering about pickup heights on my tele lately. my bridge pickup has been giving off really sharp and loud feedback whenever i have some good crunch. my grandfather who owned the guitar previously said to take a little screwdriver and lower the pickup a little bit (bridge pickup of course) i was wondering if i do go about lowering my pickups how would i go about measureing it? are there any other effective ways to reduce feedback for the bridge pickup?
any help is greatly appriciated |

You can start with the Bill Lawrence method
Try placing two nickels between pickup and strings on the bass side and one nickel on the treble side. You can use this as a starting point and then dial in exactly what you want from there. On my Tele, using Bardens, it took quite a while to balance the pickup height and the tone from my amp. But it's worth it to take the time and get it just right. Good luck.

As far as feedback that could be microphonics- the bridge pickup needs to be very tight and secure in the bridge plate. Maybe a loose baseplate on the pickup. I'm no expert on the feedback problem though, someone correct me if need be. Cheers Matt

Matt could be correct with his comment about the feedback. If it happens more the higher the gain goes, it's more than likely the baseplate of the pickup, the front edge of the bridge itself, the windings of the pickup, or sometimes even the springs on the pickup mounting screws. I had one Tele that started feeding back and I would just put a little pressure on the front lip of the bridge to stop it- not a very convenient way to play
