Found a GREAT place to get wood for shim!

Hey guys,

Just ordered some wood from The Veneer Store for shims. They have maple, alder, etc, etc.

http://www.theveneerstore.com/p-289-hand-sample.aspx

$5 per piece of 8x11" veneer sample. FREE SHIPPING!!!!!

And the wood is between 1/42" and 1/46" in thickness. GREAT for a shim!

I'd just type in "Neck Shims" in the search box, and you should have plenty of reading.

Here ya go. I've never tried it, but it looks pretty simple to do, assuming you can operate a screw driver. Just scroll down to "Action"

I'm going to try my luck at planing the shim, making it a really slight wedge, so that there's contact at all points, not just the butt end.

I'm looking forward to this being extremely difficult though. haha.

The local rabbi uses cut off foreskins for shim. He gets them for free.

I've done some full pocket wedges...but you might find it easier using a Nice fresh piece of #100 Grit Sandpaper on a Hardwood block...goes quicker than you would think.

Agreed. I still don't understand why nobody out there offers ready-made, tapered shims ready to go. That would be SUPER handy...
