cheap pots
i posted this question in the main forum, but now think that was the wrong thing to do, im kindof( ok a lot ) dumb with the forum/computer user thing. my apoligies.
Question: i just received a douglas wf 150 as a gift. the volume pot is really wiggly and the tone pot not much better. i havent had time to open up the control plate and was wondering which type of pots i should buy to replace them. i wanted to pick them up before i traveled back home tonite. its a 65 mile commute! just average for most of use but i wanted to start soon. guess i may end up going home empty handed and just opening up the plate and check the values of the sorry pots in question and then go from there. thanks for the eyes since you dont need ears to listen to this rambling note. by the way, was needing suggestions for replacements. i think i want to stick with a no load tone pot simular to my amer. stand. tele.

Get CTS (or Fender branded CTS) solid shaft pots. It just doesn't make sense to buy $3 cheapies when the truly excellent ones can be had for $6.
Be aware though that your control plate may be hole punched for a metric size, and might need a little reaming to accept the USA-spec CTS shafts. It's easy to do though and is covered by the nut and the knob anyway. |
