Where should a beginner start?

I've made a few basic mods to my guitar including changing out the pickups. I've noticed that there are many subtle changes that many people recommend that include changing Caps, Pots, wiring configurations and combinations of all. There appears to be lots of great information on this forum but some of it hard to follow for a newbie. Can anyone recommend a resource that can help me get started and understand the effect of making some basic changes?

Many thanks.

This is probably the best place. If there is something that you don't understand or can't quite follow don't be afraid to say that. Everyone here was new to this at one time so they will understand if you have any problems.
There is such a wealth of knowledge here just don't be afraid to use it.

straight up. If you want to get the best out of your guitar learn to tweek the neck and set it up properly. If you run zero or next to zero relief you will get more sustain out of your piece since vibrations are being more directly sent into the body. And there is a sweet spot for every guitar. On mine as little as 1/8 turn on the truss rod would change the resonance. Then you have pickup height adjustment which will affect how the pickups you have sound. Then you have pick attack and other personal issues. I can't say i have ever had to tear into the guts of a guitar except to fix broken things except when i was first starting out and modded an old 3 pickup hagstrom I to work like a strat. I shoulda bought a strat and not tore up a cool piece.
