Esquire Mod PLZ help
Hi, I own a Fender Esquire( Mexican) and i want to put a neck pick up on it. I think if I put a neck pickup it will have more warmth( if you know what i mean) Will it ruin the guitar? and what pick up should in there? But I also want to keep the classic twang and the fender sound. Please help

I suspect your esquire already has neck pickup route under the pickguard. Take the screws off and have a look.
If so all you need is a new pickguard (one with a neck pickup hole) and a new neck pickup. |

No way to ruin your esquire by trying it with a neck pickup. Also you don't need to buy a new tele pickguard until you decide you want to keep the neck pu. Be careful you don't drill thru the back of the body when you drill the mounting screw holes.(put a piece of tape on the bit at the depth you want) Also, it's easier to "borrow" a pre wired tele control plate than to de solder the esquire wiring until you decide what you like but it sounds like you want the added versatility of the Tele set up. Just a little more work to put it back! Lots of guys here replace their stock neck pick ups and you can find them in the classifieds occasionally. |

Thanks, that was a really great tip but I have another question what if I took it to like a certified guitar shop and have them out the pick up in. Do they know not to drill through and things? and any suggestions for the neck pick up(I want to keep the twang and classic Fender sound)

Do they even have those over there? i mean guitar shops... i had a hard time finding decent strings in Ethiopia two years back.
Not that seoul's the same.... I think the safest bet be to take it to a renownd guitar repair guy... |

I think you guys are underestimating the guitar shops here, yeah they do have great guitar shops and some have wider range than big guitar centers in the states. Yeah I think renowned gutiar shops work best but what i REALLY wsant to know is the pick up what should i get?
