Just wondering if this has been discussed here before ..about trying to put a vintage 3 saddle bridge on a stratocaster ?? Has anyone tried it before or know of any reasons why it couldn't work?

I've been thinking a lot about this lately. I think it would make a very interesting instrument. I don't see why it wouldn't work, and it might make the lead pickup on a strat useful.
It would look cool as well. Has anyone done it ? Pics ? |

The tele bridge pup is at a different angle than the strat bridge pup, so you may have to rout....
The strat pup mounts differently, of course, than a tele pup, so you'll have to do some modifications if you want to use a strat pup.... Where are you going to attach the strings, since it sounds as if you're doing this to a guitar routed for a trem? Personally, if I were going to do this, I'd have Warmoth cut me a strat-shaped body with a tele bridge rout and string-through holes.... It might be simpler, though, just to call Lindy Fralin and get a baseplate for your strat pup.....

Yes, well thats basically the problem I am working on ....figuring out whether it would be easier to rout out my strat's pup, cut the pickguard....or just have warmoth make me a strat body with string through.
My father has a beautiful custom shop tele, and I was staring at it trying to figure out why it sounded so much better than my strat. One of the main differences (besides the pickups themselfs) looked to be the tele's massive bridge. And I thought if i could somehow frankenstien my strat with a tele bridge I could make an interesting design, hopefully with a good tone. |

Sometimes it helps to change the height of your saddles or try saddles of different material or to change the height of your pups or experiment with different strings makes or gauges. I don't know if you have tried things like that, but I've noticed that they can make a difference. Or try one of those Rio Grande Stelly's.
YMMV |

Warmoth made one for me. Strat body shape, but everything else was Tele. Sounded just like a Tele, looked like a Strat. I think Warmoth still has a picture of it in their Gallery.

here is my project :
![]() body shape like a strat but with tele bridge and tele bridge pickup, tele neck with ebony finger board. In fact I would like to have two guitars in one. Strat and tele ! I've send an email to warmoth, and thez say :"We’re not set-up for the Tele bridge on the Strat-sorry. " :( Don't really understand because I was thinking that an hardtail strat body could be OK for this application.... and we can see that on warmoth web : ![]() I've a Lag Theblues californian serie with a strat like body and tele electronic. this guitar play like a tele..

I'm actually working on a project like this
I bought a heavily modded '73 awhile back. I've got it stripped and getting ready to block the Kahler route.
I figured I'd just try to find a top-loader tele bridge and make my own pickguard. The Strat body has also been routed for a h/b in the bridge so I think I'll have plenty of room for the tele bridge p/u. It's a great chunk of wood that didn't make it through the 80's unharmed. |

Here's a Custom Shop version:
![]() http://www.guitarrez.com/usedhtml/usdfencstx.html The guys at Guitar Rez are great, but there are a dozen guitars in their shop I'd rather have. |

I was thinking more along the lines of a Telemaster meself.
Allparts has a JM blank that looks like fun.

string spacing
Hey everyone,
I'm a newbie here and this is my first post. I recently found the forum and have been lurking a while and decided to enter this thread. I've been thinking of doing the same thing to my parts caster made with a Carvin strat type hard tail body. The bridge pickup route is for a humbucker so that may fit a tele pickup... but what about string spacing and the through body holes? I know I can go with a stelly or twangbanger or any number of other boutique pickup builders who will make a tele pickup to fit a strat, but I'm guessing the bridge has something to do with the sound as well and that it should be a three saddle, string through... any thoughts? roy d |
