toploading and string end wrap concerns

A concern has been expressed here before that when toploading a Tele, the wrapped portion of the string end may be so long that it extends to or past the break point of the string on the saddle. If that happens the string is not likely to ring out as clearly as it should.

I have experienced that with some strings a few years ago. The ones I remember for sure that had that problem were Darco strings.

D'Addario NPS 9-42s have never caused me that problem. I just toploaded a Tele with them, took a picture and edited it with MS Paint to show (red circles) the point where the string wraps end.

When in a pinch, I've been known to load strings into strat saddles. The wrap ends OBVIOUSLY overhanging the saddle.

Honestly, the difference is fairly slight.

That's the trick that Leo Fender developed for the G+L Saddle Lock Bridge back in the 80's.

Applying that trick to an ashtray type bridgeplate is an idea I picked up from TDPRI member telesavant here.

Which strat saddles and bridge did you use, and why/how did the wrap ends overhang the saddles?
