Jack problem
I have a custom shop thinline and when switching guitars a couple weeks ago the jack came straight out of the guitar with the cable.
It might be getting worse, and there doesn't seem to be a retaining nut or anything like that. Is there anything, besides wrapping the jack in tape, that I can do to fix this? |

This is such a common problem with Teles - there's actually a bit of bent tin with barbs which are supposed to dig into the wood as the jack retaining nut is tightened. In practice, the bloody thing often comes adrift after a while and results in your experience. You can get it reinstalled but personally, I can recommend 2 courses of action. Either install an Electrosocket, which involves 2 woodscrews but is a neat and safe solution. Alternatively, if it is imperative to retain the vintage look, ditch the barbed clip and glue in the jack cup with an epoxy resin glue, reinstalling the jack when the glue has dried. Good luck.

If it is a "milled" jack cup, like on the Nocasters, there isn't a retaining clip inside and it is just a press fit in the hole. The one on my NOS Nocaster kept falling out, and eventually I coated it with some white woodworking glue (like Elmers) and pressed it back in tight and left it for a bit. It's been fine ever since.

With all due respect...They are Vintage correct for early 50s...and they look Cool...but what you are having trouble with, is exactly why Leo went to the later style w/ the internal clip...which still ain't all that reliable IMO.
