There is no one correct size...too many makers of that tuner and different screw sizes...Best just to drill some test holes in Hardwood scrap first, and remember to wax the threads 1st...you'll know when it feels right.

Make sure the bit you use is large enough. The screws are small and maple is a very hard wood. Breaking those small screws in the headstock is a fairly common occurance. Choose a bit that is just a little smaller than the screw threads.

The last vintage Kluson tuners that I installed on a Tele neck measured .096 on the threads which is close to a #3 screw size. I've used a #48 drill (.076) which works well. Do lube the screw threads before finessing them in.

I had a problem with this several years ago. Here is a link to a previous thread with a response directed back to me by Ken Warmoth.

Ken said 5/64 ".

on two USACG necks and a warmoth neck I have used a 1/16th bit and then a 3/32 to slightly countersink the hole without problem..well...one drill threw when my "depth gauge moved !
