spezel tuners-to wrap or not wrap?

i just aquired a strat with these already installed and noticed the previous owner wound the strings on the post several wraps each string.
is this the prefered method?
or do you just pull em' straight through?
if you wrap them,do you lock them before or after winding?
ive heard of alot of string breakage problems if you over tighten the locking wheel.how tight is right?
any opinions?

Do not wrap. Tighten before winding. Hand tight.

you should end up with about 3/4 of a wrap when tuned. it is stable and holds tune extremely well.

Yes, I like 1/2 to 3/4ths of a wrap.

That way I can take off, then re-install a string if need be. Half a wrap on a hardtail, 3/4 of a go-round on a trem guitar.

I agree with Al, hand tight, you may use a cloth if your grip strength is diminished. Use a tool and you will break 'em.

According to Sperzel

You first rotate the string hole in the tuner post to about 5:00 in line with the string path. That is 11:00 at the top and 5:00 at the bottom facing the nut. Then load the string just slightly slack and lock it down. Now tune up and you will have about 3/4 wrap. I love em.
