Which pots for SD CS BG-1400?
I currently have it in an esquire with 250K pots and find it pretty dark. MJ at the Seymour Duncan has now responded it was designed around 250K pots and then when I said it was dark she said it was designed for 500K pots. Should I just drop the 500K's in and be done with it?

Great question. I'm planning on buying that very same pickup for an Esquire that I'm going to build. You could simply put in a 500K pots and it will cost you about $12 total to experiment. Or try just a tone pot and a different value cap like 0.022 or 0.015 uf. Let us know-this will be good info for my Esquire build.
If the sound is not to your liking, pull the pickup and put in a lower outuput pickup. I'll buy the BG-1400 from you, no problem. |

I think if you're trying to twang-up a BG-1400, you probably can't do it. It's a stacked humbucker with a punch bigger than most full sized humbuckers. That's what Willy G. was going for- classic look, big tone. I'd say try the higher value pots as suggested, but you might just want to get a more 'traditional' output tele pickup.
What tone are you trying to get? More traditional or more full/modern? |

However, the resonant peak is probably in the Custom-Custom range... So it's probably a dark, FAT pickup regardless of what pots you use. I'll second that question... What tone are you looking for? |
