Tone Pot Issue
I've started using my 65 Tele again. I've been playing Gibsons and Epiphones for the last year.
I find that most pickups regardless of the make of the guitar tend to be overly bright. With the Gibson's, I leave the tone set around 7. With the Tele, the tone pot must be set to almost off to get a jazz type of tone. The tone pot is a 250K audio taper and the cap is a .05 uF. It's as if the last 10% of the pot travel really affects the sound. I generally adjust the amp to get a warmer sound. I'm sure others have experienced this problem. By the way, I have been away from the forum for about a year, and this is my first thread. |

Hmm... well, it might just be that the Tele is the wrong guitar for you.
The way a tone pot works might be counterintuitive to the way a lot of people think - when the tone is rolled all the way "off" (full mud) the pot is showing it's least resistance, like when you have the volume pot turned all the way up. Maybe a "reverse log" pot would suit you better, since it would give you more of a usable sweep. You could try a higher value cap. Doing so will dig a little deeper into the freq spectrum, rolling off deeper mids. Beyond that it will probably come down to EQ at the amp. |
