Listen up to what Terry has just posted, he's right on the money.

Do also understand that a goodly amount of the "gearheading" we do has its place in the larger scheme of "making good music". All of the music tools we employ carry their own uniquenesses - If anyone could make a "perfect guitar" and then clone it just as perfectly, that anyone could only be God and not a mere mortal. Amen.

My reference to tolerances had to do with the same product having reproducible characteristics if you built say 100 units.

In the reversed manner if you are using the same guitar and plugged into 100 of the “same model” amplifiers, you would have tonal variations using the exact same settings between the amps if the manufacturer used large tolerances of say +/- 30% for their component specs rather than +/-5%. The tighter the tolerances the more predictable results will be.

Thanks for you feedback.

Thanks for your politeness and welcome to the TDPRI. I appreciate your attention to detail.

Don't buy into the hype about improving tone with a certain "switch" or a certain "cap" or even a certain "pot".

I use orange drop caps because they are pretty. I'll use cloth wrapped wire because I'm electronics tech by trade and I don't get to use it at work - so it's nice to play with at home. Switches and Pots? I base my selection of those TOTALLY on durability and feel. I like smooth - no scratchy pots and I like switches that snap into place and tend to stay there.
