Brushed-on Nitro Finish?

Whereas I don't have the means to facilitate sprayed-on nitro, would it be possible to finish a guitar just by brushing thin coats and sanding?

Would the fumes be just as dangerous?

Brushing nitro just doesnt work IMHO .the paint was designed for spraying in most cases. Brushing it on is tricky as the the brush marks dont roll out as the paint dries very quickly and also the next coat may well lift the lower coat ,as the thinners in the coat you are applying will dissolve the coat already on .

Well .............. Deft makes a brushing lacquer. I suggest you buy a small can along with some lacquer thinner do a little experimenting using some 2x4 pieces.

Just curious, are you talking about nitro paint or nitro clear? And, why wouldn't you be able to use a rattle can of nitro?

Nitro clear, most likely. I'm thinking I can use a spare bedroom with the windows open, 'cos I don't have any other space to do a spray job.

Do you have an outside area where you could set up a temporary booth. Cardboard or shower curtain could be used to cut out any breeze or dust?

Just a thought.

I do mine in the same shed where i do the woodwork. I just let everything settle for a while before spraying then stay out til the lacquar dissipates.
