Teles and the Memory Man
I love the sound of electro harmonix's Memory Man delay, but have never played it with a tele. I've heard these tend to be rather noisy, so I was wondering if anyone here is using the MM with a tele, and how it sounds?

Noisy? (sorry NTC)
In 1978, my band did the music for the play Godspell, and during the 'death' scene, we used the whoosing whitenoise as a special effect. I think that was the only thing I used it for.
For the record, I was playing a beloved Ibanez Artist at the time

I have an old MM from the late 70s or early 80s. It is a bit noisy, but I have found that the signal buffering of the Visual Sounds Rt. 66 OD/compressor cleans it up nicely when the Rt. 66 comes before the MM in the signal chain. The MM really only gets noisy when you crank up the delay time and feedback -- when used for more subtle ambient effects it is not all that noisy. I am planning on spending some more time tweaking this setup over the weekend, so I can check back with more comments next week if you're interested.

memory man, a keeper
other effects have come and gone, but i've kept my original memory man since, gosh, the late 70s. yes, it's noisy, but i really like it's chorus and, when i'm not playing direct, always have it on. it adds a really nice richness and heats things up as well.
the delay is good for special effects, but i don't use those. caveat - i haven't tried other choruses, at least not seriously, so can't really compare.

Oh yes, I'm familier with its gritty, dirty type sound. I remember an engineer threw a MM on some of the vocals we were doing in the studio, but to tell you the truth i've never plugged one in on my guitar setup. What I'm more concerned with is true bypass, tone, etc.

I have one on my pedalboard. It is a recently new unit. It DOES have true bypass. All the new units do.
I really like the way it sounds with my Tele's and Strat. I don't like it quite as much with my PRS guitars. I think they just drive it a little hard for my taste. It still gives a nice vintage sound. And I don't really notice any noise on stage. I can hear a little hiss if using it at home. On stage it does not matter anyway. With all the other noise going on, you can't hear it. I have tried to use several others and the EH was the best that I tried. Some of the others cost a lot more!
