Guitar Polish

Do you guys favor any particular polish for your guitars? Or can I just get a can of Pledge?

Please DON'T use Pledge, use that purely for your furniture. Get a bottle of Fender, Gibson or Dunlop polish instead - these don't contain any nasties which could eventually damage your guitar. :)

Meguairs or #m Finesse It

neither one contain silicone, available at Auto Parts stores and or Auto Paint supply houses.
Meguiars makes a whole line of polishes, #7 is good for guitars for polishing, if you need to buff out some
scratches that the #7 won't get out, you can get #2 and use it first.

I use fender polish

only because I had the bottle for 5-6 years and it just seems to last forever. I think itīs easy to get the guitar clean but the polishing-stuff stays on the guitar instead  . I have to polish it over and over and I always miss a spot. It seems like it donīt dry and I wont buy another, gonna try the dunlop instead. :)

I read a review

in Vintage Guitar mag about "Legend" brand polish. Bought a bottle and love it. Smooth flow yet good cleaning. Buff off the residue and see the shine! No wax AFAIK. Very nice results. Couldn't find it on MF dot com so I tried "Ken Smith." Pinkish and "fruity" smelling. Goes on like soapy water and feels like it does nothing. No dried stuff to buff off. Maybe I'm wrong but I think it's useless.

Used auto polishing compound to clean off years of grime on my '63 Epi recently. Worked great but I wouldn't recommend that for regular cleaning/polishing.

re "auto polishing compound"

The Meguiars and 3M Finesse It are as good as anything available, in fact someone ( Fender?) recently started selling the Meguiars as guitar polish albeit in smaller more expensive packages.
Neither of these products is the same as the old abrasive rubbing or polishing compounds from years ago, they are safe for new paint and old paint.

Pledge? Curses!! Seriously, this is a repairman's
nightmare.New finish (i.e. re-fin,touch up) wont bond well w/ old finish thats been cleaned w/ furniture
polish. Watered down liquid Turtle Wax works just fine.

P-O-L-I-S-H???? What might that be, then?! You gents are gonna be a long time dead, and your guitar'll be just nicely broke in!!!!

I bought a '65 Strat in '82, and it looks pretty much as it did then, worn out! But it's no worse, and it sounds fine. MY '82 Tele has a small ding in it, other than that, it's pretty unchanged.

Hot breath and a soft cloth work wonders.......and, yes, I am talking about guitars, here!
