The Jangler! - My First Frankenguitar

This guitar was the first one I have ever built entirely of spare parts. I started with a Affinity Strat that I got at a pawnshop for $ 75.00. I then modded the body to a more Jaguar / Jazzmaster look. I tinted the neck with ReRanch Neck Amber. I painted the body and headstock with ReRanch Coral. I then used Nitro Lacquer to complete the finish. I added upgraded MIM Strat pots, switch and bridge. The bridge pickup is a MIM Tele that I had laying around. The mid and neck are MIM Strat pickups. I tried my hand at a bit of " relicing " and it seemed O.K. I found the lettering for the headstock at Target as kind of an afterthought. I call this one the " Jangler " as it is one twangy - jangly little beast. My total cost into the Jangler ( not counting the cost of the spare parts I used ) is about $ 150.00. If anything, it was good practice soldering and painting / finishing. What do you think? The link with pictures is http://s331.photobucket.com/Dale_bucket

You asked ........ I'll answer. I think the headstock sort of overpowers the cut down body. Cut it into a Telecaster shape and I think it would be a great improvement. Otherwise .......good job.

Yeah, that headstock looks huge, but I think it's more the camera. Looks like you're using a pretty extreme wide angle setting on your lens.

I think that's a neat concept, but I'd like to see a pic from a normal perspective.

Unfortunately, the headstock really looks that darn big. I considering shaping it into a Tele profile. Perhaps, the Jangler needs some cosmetic surgery?

Tele style headstock would be an improvement but I think it would look good with a 50's strat style head.

Pearloid pickguard might look nice too but the white looks fine.

Body looks good.

Looks fine to me , I like big CBS headstocks and the colour is hot :)

Dig around and find a spare T neck to stick on there for a trial. Kind of a pain, since you must mod the heel. But I'd try some intermediate sized headstocks before I went straight to an actual Tele headstock.

Always wondered what the merger of the two headstock styles would look like.

The body shape and color are excellent! Very well done.

This Wikipedia page has various headstock shapes that you can download, click in the thumbnail and then right-click on the image and save the SVG file.

You'll need and editor capable of opening the SVG files (actually their a text file but unusable to you in that form). You can get a free editor called Inkscape.

Print out a few headstock shapes, cut them out with some slots around the tuners, tape them on and see what you like.
