Ugly thing, help me get rid of it!

Hi!

I recieved a neck from Mighty Might last week and surprise surprise, there's this ugly black plastic thing where is the trust rod adjustment. First, could someone tell me the name of it? Second, is it possible to get rid of it and replace it by a wood one? If so, where could I buy it?

Big thanks!

If you plug it then how would you adjust it? Yeah, it's ugly but from a few feet away you really don't notice it. This is why I don't buy anything that adjusts from the wrong end (just kidding for you folks that like to do things the easy way).

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. I can't believe you're having a problem with this. Fagitaboudit and go practice your arpeggios.

The official name is The Fender Black Plastic Headstock Truss Rod Access Hole Liner.

If you wanted a wooden plug you ordered the wrong neck.

Ugly or not, it's not the point. I want to remove it and put a wood one, not to fill the hole.

Thanks

Contact Larry Miletich at Music One Workshop or some other Fender authorized service center. You can buy a walnut dowel with a hole in the center as used on Fender USA necks with the Bi-Flex truss rod. After glueing it in you would have to shape it to match the headstock. Once installed you wouldn't be able to remove the truss rod nut. ............ Like I said ........... fagitaboudit.

Rats.

I read the topic heading and thought you might be giving away an ol 1957 Esquire or some such thing.

If so, by all means let me know first.

There's lots of extra wood on that headstock that needs removing too! I'd address that first.

You're going to end up spending so much money replacing the black phenolic surrounding the truss rod adjustment that you could just afford to buy a new neck from Warmoth, Musikraft, or USACG that doesn't have that.

The unofficial name is "Fagitaboudit" - you can buy one at any Walmart, Super G or Tarje.

If I got a Mighty Mite Fender Replacement neck, and Saw that black plastic, Id return it, and go with Warmoth or USAGC.....Fender doesnt use black plastic there, Korea does. Yet one more strike for ole Middle Man Mighty Mite in my book.

Yes, MIM Standards have them. They used to be on the AmStds a long time ago, too, if I remember correctly, before the replaced the black phenolic with the current walnut surround.

Actually, a lot of Korean copies tend to just have a hole in the wood.

I don't see the big deal with the black surround. It's better looking than the '70s bullet truss rod adjustments and I really have no problem with those, either.

Why not cover with some kind of sticker?

Some of the banana stickers have an attractive logo.

the modification could probably turn out ugly (glue, etc.) and it's going to be quite dear.... I'd return the neck and go for one of the Seventies CBS models which don't have wood at all, it's just the plain maple and the bullet truss rod ;)
