Pickguard question

I am putting a warmoth neck on my fender american tele body. Everything works well, except there is not enough space beneath the fretboard overhang and the body for the pickguard to fit properly. Sooo..... I sanded down the pickguard, and I had to sand all the way down to the second ply (it's mint/black/mint), and it just looks goofy having this black part around the neck.

Does anyone know where I can get a thinner pickguard? I got this one at guitarfetish.com, which has always done me right. Are the single-ply ones thinner? They may be better to sand if I have to do that, since no middle color will show.

Thanks for any tips or sites to get a thinner one?

Thanks,

TS

The Lite Ash Telecaster has a fretboard overhang. The pickguard however does not fit under the overhang. The pickguard is cut to fit around the fretboard.

On Lite Ash Teles, and others with overly thick fretboard overhangs...I find it much easier and less intrusive to just sand down the thickness from the bottom of the overhang, and use a Standard Pickguard...have done quite a few that way.

Tony ........ what does Fender do on their American guitars with 22 fret necks? Does the pickguard fit under or around the overhang?

Yep my USA teles with 22 frets have room under the overhang for the guard to slide under. Usually have to take the neck off though unless ya have an esquire. haha...

Yeah Jack...as our friend from Kentucky says above, the USA ones have a thinner shelf (and a thinner guard) that slips under....The Lite Ash guard seems thicker, and of course the Tang or shelf is also....The Lite Ash isn't a half bad guitar, but I don't know why that Korean Factory does it that way ?....and as an aside, I'm fairly certain the Nelsonics you & I both have, are built in the same exact Factory !
