I used an "aged" Callaham bridge unit and a stock vintage style Tele bridge plate w/the stamped Fender logo. I used a dremel tool to cut the back out of the plate. I left the raised sides and slipped the Strat trem inside. So, when you look at it from the top, the pivot screws on the Strat bridge fit inside and are surrounded by the bridge plate. From a distance, you sort of have to look twice to notice that it isn't a standard Tele bridge plate. Because I removed most of the back of the plate, I mounted the plate to the face of the guitar using four small screws.
It works great and sounds just like a Tele should. I have about 6 Teles. so, I have a lot of them to compare to. I don't have a picture of mine to post, but it looks a lot like the blonde w/black pickguard picture in the following thread except I left the "wings" made up of the sides of the bridge plate that I described above: http://www.tdpri.com/forum/telecaste...my-bigsby.html It's my surf & turf Tele. Hey PhatTele, are there diagrams for routing the body to allow a Strat trem? I am a better than average wood worker, however, I never routed a guitar body. Do you think I could rout out a trem box? Or do you do this sort of thing for a living, maybe I can send you a tele body? Thanks

I came across the TremKing. Never heard of them, but the video on the site was pretty informative (not my music style). However, after coming across the picture posted above that PhatTele directed me towards, I like that look the most. I am confident I could shave a tele bridge plate to look like that, but not sure I can handle routing the trem.

I'm a tinkerer when it comes to putting guitars together. So, like I said, I had Guitar Mill do all the wood working and finishing (which I tweaked a bit to match the neck that I got my neck from Billy Rowe at http://www.rocknrollrelics.net/) I got the pickups from Lindy Fralin (he's here in town). I did the assembly, wiring, set up, and metal working for the PU plate.
This is the picture and sound that really inspired me to do this project in the first place: http://www.rockabillyhall.com/EddieAngel1.html |

Tommy's great! He'll do a top notch job.

Take a look at this Dalmore thread here on TDPRI.
This is a build thread where Arlo has Ron Kirn build a Tele using a Glendale Chimemaster which is a Stratocaster trem that uses Tele saddles. |
