Vintage tuners on 2005 HW1

Still considering the vintage tuners on the HW1 for cosmetic reasons (and assuming they are at least as good as the stock fender tuners).
Part number 0648 from Stew Mac (thanks Boris). plus bushing/converter

Question is:
Do I need to drill pilot holes for the screws?
If so can anyone please provide technical details? pilot hole size, depth template, soap etc...
thanks,
Iggy
