push/pull help

Dear TDPRI, i am new here, and I need help urgently,

I built a telecaster out of a Saga kit (fyi they are very good guitars if built carefully), and decided to mod the electronics, i ordered 2 push/pull pots from musicians friend and I want to know if it's possible to control both series/out of phase with just the push pulls, a wiring diagram would be great, i tried making my own but the wires just didn't add up for at least one of the options.

YES, you can run one p/p as the phase switch and the other p/p as the series switch. That will give you all six possible combinations from two pickups.

FIRST, you'll have to do the unground/reground thang to the neck pickup:
unground/reground the neck cover

Here's a drawing for two push/pulls:

Note the new "extra" ground lead from the neck pickup (green line).

The tone push/pull reverses the phase of the neck pup. Note that you will only HEAR this effect when you have the toggle in the middle, for both pups selected (OR if you have the pickups in series). It will have no effect on the neck-only tone.

The volume push/pull puts the neck in series with the bridge pickup. It has a little twist in the series wiring that I like, which is to defeat the 3-way toggle switch when it is pulled for series. The reason I like this is because when the two pickups are wired in series, the 3-way gives you only TWO tones: bridge/bridge/series - the bridge-pup-only "repeats" in the middle throw. This is because the neck pup is "shunted" at that throw. With my wiring scheme, the 3-way has no effect once you pull the volume for series - you just get the pups in series, which most players observe has a "boosted" output.

If you pull BOTH p/p, you will get the pickups in series/out of phase. This is a GREAT tone to play with some crunch and overdrive, and the pinched harmonics will come flyin' out...
