Low Pass Capacitors
I have thoroughly confused myself on low pass capacitors.
One of my tele's has no tone knob. On the volume pot there is a tiny little low pass capacitor about the size of this dude . I don't know what technical size it is. I guy at a local store sent me a 1mf capacitor, but it's huge and doesn't look right. Another dude at a store sent me a new volume pot and said the capacitor is included, but it doesn't look right. What I am trying to do is trick out a second tele the same way and am trying to find the right components to do so. I am thinking I need a .05 or .047 capacitor, which I can have soldered to the volume pot in the same fashion as the tele I am copying. Anybody out there that can help straighten out my thinking? Thanks |

Caps themselves are neither low-pass nor high-pass; that is a function of the circuit they are in, that's all.
eryque is right, a value of about 0.001mfd will do.

I found it easier to use that mod credited to Fezz. Instead of hooking the tone pot to the outside lug of the the volume pot where the wire from the switch goes, move tone pot wire to the raker connect, volume output.
