stripped adjustment hole on pickup.. help?

so im putting together this guitar and I dont want to mention the pickup maker at this point, but they are hand made, expensive, you get the point...

anyway, after fighting with the neck pickup to fit it in the cavity, i go to screw it into the pickguard and one of the holes through the plastic baseplate is completely stripped. the screw just slides freely in and out.

any ideas as to how i might fix this? i need to not only secure the pickup to the pickguard, but it also must be height adjustable (as it it is supposed to be), so i cant just fix it with a nut on the bottom.

I've fixed this before by putting a nut on the bottom.
Usually have to string it all up, measure how much to raise and lower and then loosen the strings, pull the pickup out and adjust.

There is probably a better way to do it.

Here's a few ideas...

* Re-tap with a slightly bigger screw

* Crazy glue a nut to the pickup

* Mount the pickup to the body

Cheers and HTH,

Bob

That's exactly what I'd do. You just have to find one with the correct threads.

Take some teflon tape (the stuff that you use to install a shower head) and wrap it around the screw before you thread it in.

I'd go with the glued nut idea.

I used the glued nut trick on my #1, and it works great. I just went to the local hardware store and bought a nut and matching machine bolt and slapped it in. No problems since.

May as well do both sides while you're at it especially if you use an epoxy.
