Narrow-neck Telecaster

This may be heretical to say, but I find the necks on the Fender Teles too wide. I don't mean the thickness, but the nut-width.
I've been playing a Yamaha for the past twenty years, and it has a narrow, very fast neck that I really love. Every time I pick up a Fender Tele, I have trouble playing it. I know that it says more about my limitations as a guitarist, but can anyone recommend a non-Fender Tele that has a narrower neck than the true Fenders?

If the old-school 1-5/8 witdh is too much for you , the Squier Affinity is narrower. Most newer teles have the 1-11/16 nut size

Those Affinity necks are 1.61 I think, and not particularly deep, so that would be right at what you are looking for. The Squier Standards and Bullets are bigger, so they must've had you in mind.

Yeppers...look for a Squier Affinity, or some of the other Asian Clones...flip over a business card and make a spacing guide from your Yamaha's nut, and take w/ you when you go shopping.

Great idea. I'll do that.
My Tokai is to my liking, but after seeing all the gorgeous Teles on this site, I've just got to have more!

Kelnet, i think you answered your own question right there, after 20 years you are going to be as familiar with that neck as if it had been a Tele you had been playing for 20 years !!

Tele necks will seem different, as would a Gibson or a Gretsch or a Rickenbacker ...... some times it takes a little time to re adjust i guess.

Personally i prefer a Tele neck but for the same reasons as yourself, it wouldn't stop me enjoying playing others though.

That's true, Big John. Perhaps it's just a matter of getting used to it. However, today I tried a Fender Tele that had a rosewood fingerboard (much like my Tokai), and it felt narrower than the other Teles with the maple necks. Are they made differently? I can't remember the model, but there was also a Squier with a rosewood fretboard, and it also felt narrower. Could this be the solution? Which models have the rosewood fingerboards?

I wonder if you are feeling the difference in radius ?, might be worth a Google search or similar for Fender neck dimensions.
