9-46 strings on a MIM Std Tele
I have a 2007 MIM Standard Telecaster. I want change the 9-42 strings with 9-46. The low E string slot in the nut appears to be a tight fit with the 42 gage string. Has anyone installed 9-46 string on similar Tele? Did you have to widen any of the string slots?

I don't think so, and here's why.
I have a number of guitars with 11-49 and 10-52 string sets on 'em. I have not done routine widening on the stock nuts on MIM Teles; maybe one slot one every seventh guitar, a slot that wasn't right to start with. I think Fender knows a lot of players go up from 9-42 and they try to anticipate that. You might have more worries going down to 8s. Ask me about 12-56s, and my answer might change.

I read in to your message that you haven't yet tried and are asking if anyone has and if they had any problems. Mellecaster nails the obvious point that if it doesn't fit (when you actually try it) then you'll need to open the slot.
