It is close enough to Halloween that we need to put the stake in this one tonight

Coat Number Three tonight

remember that most of this will get sanded off.

There is enough mixed & warm goop for another coat yet.

The Old Buckocaster will be burning the Midnight Oil!

That last coat was sprayed with the fan off.

Too much cold air was coming in. Loosing all of the heat!

It loaded the Sparkle Barn pretty much up full.

One of these tubs for each color of flake we have used. There are a couple of more in hiding.

Oh no!

Somebody has put in a supply of Template Stock!

Could it be?

Maybe...just maybe...

This is what "she" looked like after the last coat last night.

Haven't been out there this morning. (I almost foolishly said "today!" )

is it just me or does the control plate seem out of place when the body outline is moved that way.
what about something more like this:

what about something more like this:
The shape has not been changed from the bottom of the neck pocket to the back of the output jack flat spot.

Hence standard Telecaster hardware, including the pickguard, will fit.

thank you for your idea, but the neo-traditionalist in me says to change as little as possible...baby steps

No thank.

But certainly feel free to be my guest.

I can send you a .pdf or .jpg of the body outline.

To my eye that control plate needs to run parallel to the bridge plate and neck.

Anything else just looks weird to me.

i don't need full size outline plans. i'm not quite to the building stage yet. (need to pay off this laptop i'm writing on first)

you're right though, i didn't notice that till i pasted together the guitar with parts on it.
the control plate doesn't look right sticking out in that direction.
that's what photoshop mockups are for right, finding the visual problems before setting foot in the garage.

Will the slanted control plate end up putting the switch too close to the strings?

Used some of that great weather to do some sanding/polishing. (Also used some of it this morning to sleep in!)

This here teal/Lake Placid Blue Holographic thing is near about finished.

we'll give Nicole's Maple a real workout today...

and the obligatory reflection shot...

for those of you who keep track of such things

before the goop it weighed in at a "svelte" 5 lb 9 oz.

now it is tipping the scales at 6 lb 3 oz.

I will leave it as an exercise of the reader to do the math...

now back out to the Sparkle Barn

I finally reached the end of the sparkle saga thread. It took me a good four days to read all the posts and clean up the drool produced by seeing so many wonderful sparkly guitars.
My three year old daughter really liked all the sparkles.

Awesome work Mr. Buckocaster51 and thank you for posting such great examples, instructions, and build methods.

Thank you!

Which one is her favorite?

Everybody has to have a favorite...it's in the rule book.

So I was going to knock the shine off of this today to let the gases out...

in anticipation of polishing in neck weekend or so

but wouldn't you know it

there is still a bit of roughness in some spots on the sides.

A quick sanding of the sides revealed that all too well!

I don't really want to sand any deeper...a sand through would be bad about right now.

Top and back look fine.

Time to make one more trip to the goop can...

and it will be the last trip! More air than goop came out!

It was enough though

take a look here...

I hope I can find those neck screw holes again when I need them.

Now back up in the rafters!

Bucko....thought about you yesterday while watching the pre-race ceremonies for the Nascar race in Texas. ZZ Top was playing and they had sparkle guitars. Both Billy and Dusty had full on sparkle....even the fretboards were sparkled.

I didn't think they were supposed to be 4x12's, I think they're supposed to be checkerboards, like you see on the checkered flag.

The "bottom" cab in each setup is live.. just like most bands, the other cabs are just for show.

There wasn't any black checker left, Steve used it all for his binding.
