Let it shrink and sink. I like that look better than a surfboard finish. If it sinks in enough after a couple of months, you can rub in a slight toner to replicate aging.

Simply astounding. The workmanship that you put into this guitar is top notch. You need a pic of that guitar next to your home-made amp. By the way, did you ever finish the cabinet for that? The only pic I have found is your rendered design. link
Congratulations on this build. I am anxious to hear how the home brewed truss rod works in the final set up. --gh |

Thanks a lot for the comments!
Here's how I did the wiring. I soldered all the wires and caps and stuff thet were independend of the pickup wires first, very far from the guitar. ![]() I'm using an Alpha 5-way "strat" switch, wired kinda to the Craig Anderten setup. (here) I was not that into the CA setup (at least for this build),due toi these reasons: I wanted the Esquire "dark" position, instead of the neck with fixed rolloff. Besides that, the CA setup inverts the BRIDGE pickup so as to get the parallel/series variations. This didn't seem good to me, since the Bridge Pickup is the one grounding the strings and bridge through its base plate, and changing this would require a lot of fine soldering, since the ground lead AND the ground coil wire of the pickup were both soldered to the baseplate (and I have never hear of plastic mounting screws So I basically changed the neck to the bridge pickup positions, so that now I would have the bridge pickup with a set rolloff and fixed ground, while inverting the NECK pickup to get the parallel/series variation - simple enough... BUT! I still haven't figured out a way to get the Esquire "dark" wiring into this mess... I don't even know if it can be done... I'm thinking a lot about it, but for now I'll just leave it as is... Oh, I'm using 250k pots, a 47nf tone capacitor (.047uf) and a 27nf fixed rolloff cap for the bridge pickup. going on... I then soldered the pickup wires in place... ![]() and the jack wires ![]() I twisted these wires together as a resource I learned from building my amp; these wires seemed long to me, and I didnt want them to pickup too much hum. By twisting them together, they will cancel out most of the hum they pickup... I could have done this to the pickup wires aswell, but it didn't occur to me. And, quite frankly, this seems a bit overrated... I just did it because I felt like it! OH, and YOUR TONE WILL BE BETTER IF YOU TWIST YOUR WIRES - hee hee just kiddin! Cheers André Ripoll |

I installed the jack in place... Im using two screws to hold the jack in place, kinda like an eletrosocket, but improvised...
![]() and installed the first two strings and aligned the neck. all was good... ![]() and after the rest of the strings installed... ![]() It's a guitar!

![]() ![]() ![]() Final Observations The Guitar came a lot more yellow in the end... The body wood was very yellowish and the finish increased that - but besides this, It is pretty much faithful to the original mockup (oh, and the pics are yellower than real life, because I had to use a lot of incandescent lightbulbs - its really dark here today!). ![]() Specs: Body: Three-piece Marupá body, finished in clear nitro and acrylic Neck: Tauari-amarelo neck and Brazilian Rosewood fretboard, with white mother of pearl dot inlays, 12" radius, .9"-.85" thick Bridge: American Fender, three-saddles, through body mounted strings. Tuners: Wilkinson Easy Lock tuners Pickups: Wilkinson Tele pickups Wiring: 5 way: pos1: Neck Pickup pos2: Neck and Bridge parallel pos3: Bridge pickup pos4: Bridge pickup with tone cap pos5: Neck and Bridge series Overall, this is one of the best guitars I have ever played! The thick neck felt great, and I really like the 12" radius. Playing through a variation of the p1-extreme (www.ax84.com) and through a Digital Delay pedal, the guitar sounds really sweet! The Wilkinson pickups seem to be great (20 bucks the pair!), although the neck pickup seems a bit too hot - its tone is more present on the parallel and series positions than the bridge pickup, it seems. The "dark" position sounds good, although I think I could play with some cap values... I havent tried with too much distortion yet, but I think it really could use a better hotter position. The series position is hot, but it lacks highs... I THINK this is because of the hot neck pickup, but ill twek with the electronics a bit later! Videos and clips to come! Cheers André Ripoll |

I'm just going to second what everyone else here has said - beautifully done, it looks amazing.
Question: what can you tell us about Marupá and Tauari-amarelo? I've never even heard of them.

I hate the guitar is finished, well sorta. I miss this thread. Reminds me of the Sopranos or Entourage series. You can't wait until the next episode.
If you send something to Brazil and it is free, do you have to pay taxes? I have a brand spanking new USA Telecatser hard case I will give you if you don't have to pay out the butt for the tarriffs. -Craig

What an amazing thread! I just read all of this within an hour, and in that short time, my outlook on life has changed. I've always been a bit of a computer nerd / ignorant musician - in that - I don't fix my own guitars and I never do any projects to keep myself entertained. I didn't understand why... considering I don't watch television? I don't play video games? Hmm... maybe I need to re-adjust my schedules and take up a hobby like this! A definite life skill.
I take my cap off to bro. Cheers, Pleb. |

Andre, Wow! you did a fantastic job on that guitar, especially under less than perfect conditions (who gets those anyway!) After following Buckocasters Green sparkler to date I was looking for another build to watch and yours was excellent. Obrigado!

Great job! Thanks for sharing this project, it's been nice to follow it. I'm very amazed of your skills and "problem-solving methods". Special thanks for the pics of your fret file!
In addition to seeing other persons' projects I'm always impressed by the amount of photos you guys take during your builds. I always seem to take many in the beginning but then just forget the camera after a while. So I end up with pictures from start and finish but very few in between...

I'm not Andre. He hasn't been on the forum for a few days. I'll answer the question. You need a pattern following bit. The guide bearing is on the shaft ... not on the end. It could be done with a straight bit and a router guide bushing but your neck pocket template would have to be made oversize to compensate for the distance from the bit to the bushing. Makes my head hurt thinking of making such a template. Another option is a straight bit and a pin router .......... not many of us have a pin router.

That is truly one of the most gorgeous telecasters I've ever seen. I applaud you for your creativity and ability! It is very refreshing to see someone with such talent create their own instrument. Great work!

André,
An absolutely awe-inspiring build! When you don't have a tool or ready access to a part? Make what's needed from scratch! Incredible... (Mumbles to self while shuffling away, "Gotta get some shop time this weekend!")

That's Awesome.... not only is it great looking, it's going to give you a sense of connectivity as you play it that you will never find in another guitar....
Congratulations.. Ron Kirn

Andre, I want to echo the comments that have already been made here and say congratulations on a GREAT build! Your skill and workmanship is outstanding!
I have not built a guitar yet, but I work as a carpenter and have built my share of cabinets and furniture - which is just to say how much I can appreciate your craftsmanship, not only with your final product but also with your techniques and the jigs that you made in order to complete your build! Congratulations again, and keep building! |
