Well, got me some wood:



And I got me some plans and a not-so-flash mockup:





And.. not many weekends til Christmas. We'll see how it goes.

Not a bad looking design there Phil, one of your's? Not overly in love with the HS shape but it should tension all the strings in a straight pull from the nut as designed.

Had a disasterous day today, doing the frets on the neck I've been doing for my new design and stuffed the red/blue gum fret board which was looking magnificient and all oiled and marked. That red gum is beautiful but very brittle.

Yup, the body's a surfed up version of the solid acoustic I did for my bro last/this year

The headstock is actually a variation on Oigun's cool offset guitar he built about 3 months ago - Sorry Eugen I can't remember what you called it! Thanks for allowing me to change your design up a bit. I'm pretty happy with the hybrid design myself, but I know it won't be to everyone's taste. I won't be protecting it as a trademark anytime soon.

I like the headstock design! Good solution to the
problem of how to have a headstock that's curved
on the tuner side yet doesn't look like a banana.

What method will you use for shaping the top?

Thanks guys. TBH the Christmas thing is more of a self flaggellation thing. It's highly unlikely I'll even finish the body by Christmas, but it's good to set goals, even if the hope of achieving them is rather optimistic.

Glenn, I'll just be doing the LP style stepped rout idea. I just need to calculate out my depths.

Ha--that was my response, too. I figured you were finishing up on one you'd started on a while back, or getting a good start on NEXT Christmas.

Good idea... If I get everything on my firebird ready for lacquer maybe I'll start a new build... The lovelyness of living where I do is that it never really get's too cold, so my outside shop is good all year round!

I'm curious... I actually slanted the whole body shape but I moved the back end closer to vertical again. Does it remind you of something else?
