Knotty but Nice
Here's my new partscaster...or perhaps partsquire is more fitting. I put it together with:
-Eastern White Pine body from Red Dirt Guitarworks (the finish is ReRanch tinted clearcoat over teak oil and shellac) -Allparts TMO-FAT neck (ReRanch tinted clearcoat over teak oil) -Custom headstock decal by forum member JBennett -Fender vintage-style tuners -Bone nut from StewMac -Custom engraved Johnny Cash neckplate -Fender "Pat Pend" Bridge w/ threaded steel saddles -Van Zandt True Vintage Flatpole pickup -Black bakelite pickguard from Allparts -Electrosocket jack cup -Allparts heavy knurl knobs It's wired with a .0047 cap in the front position for the cocked wah sound. Middle is w/ tone and front is volume only. All in all, I'm very pleased with the look, playability, and sound. Special thanks to JBennett for the custom decal, my dad for coming up with the name, and Stan Shields of The Inventing Shed for cutting me a nice bone nut and ensuring this guitar plays and sounds as good as it does.

Yes, I applied several very light coats of teak oil first. I lost count, but it was probably between 15-20. I took an old flannel shirt and cut it into strips and used those to apply the teak oil. Then I applied a few light coats of Bullseye shellac as a barrier. Not necessary, but it gave me some peace of mind. For the fingerboard, I just sprayed the lacquer right on top of the teak oil. The back of the neck is teak oil only as I like a natural wood feel.

And thanks for the compliments, guys. I know it's a cliche, but the pics don't do it justice. They were taken with a camera phone, so they're medium-res at best.
