Filling router tearout
Hello all
I got an alder body and it's not too bad but not so good either. But anyway, I got it really cheap unfinished. So in the cutaway there are like little dents but it's damage from the router I guess. So, I took a bit of wood filler and just smeared it on, waited to dry and sanded 15, 220 , and I think I'll give the whole body a bit of 320 as well. The plan is that I am going to slap a coat or two of 2K clear on it. Then a bit of fiesta red basecoat - maybe 2 coats? And then about 2 coats of clear 2K again. Does this sound like sense to you? Will the plain old woodfiller be OK for the 2K? Cheers - Ed |

Hi Ed - that'll work fine as long as you're sealing the filler. I'd hit it with some primer and look for any leftover dents that still need sanding, or take it out in the sunlight and look for dents and scratches, before moving to your color coat.
have a great day -- Craig |

I usually fill router tearouts with a mixture of Titebond glue and sawdust. Woodfiller is good for filling small spots, but if you try to fill a big patch with it the filler might shrink or crack or something later.
