Whilst I still got my "muse" on from the challenge...

Thought I'd tackle a build I've been debating over for quite a while. A friend from work lives down in Cameron Parish, hurricane Rita devastated them down there, and a lot of other places, but, the old schoolhouse still stood till Rita decided to level and scatter it. All that was left was the floor joists, very very old 100 at least, and maybe nearing 200 yr old pine. He got me a chunk. Here it is.

Check out the tight grain.

I'm going to take my first tele, old red, and take it apart, hollow the body, plane it down to proper thickness, and top it with the pine. I'm going to resaw the pine into as many drop tops as I can.
:) :) :)

Oh, and I'm going to name it simply "Rita". :) I'm then going to build another one and give it to my pal, maybe he will give it to Cameron city for their town hall, or something. :)

Hey, as long as I got another thread going, check this out. Here in Sulphur our town Heritage festival is going on this weekend. Last nite the Little River Band played on the square. :) :) Tonight it the Atlanta Rythm Section!!! Fixin to leave for that one, boild crawfish, boudin balls, music and fun!!! :) :)

The Little River Band:

Only two original members, but man, they are good. Still sound like the ole days. I saw them back in the 80's I think at Foxborough stadium....kinda foggy. ;)

Man, I'd love to see Atlanta Rhythm Section. That'll be a blast.

Great time! Just got back from the festival, the band was really good. I met and talked to Steve Stone the rythm guitarist, nice guy, beautiful guitar. I asked what kind of guitar it is, he told me, and I promptly forgot. I'd never heard of them before. Maybe someone here will recognize it and be able to name it for me. :)

Steve Stone.

Whole stage.

Nice you're going to make something beautiful out of a tragic cirtumstance like Rita. I'm sure the guitar will not only have a lot of meaning for you but others in your community that went through so much because of Rita.

It's also a pretty chuck of wood. I can't wait to follow the build.

I would love to see ARS..... one of my favorites. I've been to Sulphur a few times. I lived in Port Neches for a few years. I remember spending many evenings at the Red Carpet Inn in Beaumont and also seeing Scott McGill and Bugs Henderson at some rock clubs there.

Wow, that's pretty cool Marty, I know the Red Carpet Inn in Beau. Tx. :)

I gotta find someone that can resaw that pine for me. I'd hate to cut it in half, I think it's nicer doing a one piece for this one. :)

Is that big enough to get at least one full body out of that board, plus some other tops? That is an awesome piece of pine that begs to have at least one full Pinecaster made out of it. Just my opinion.

It is big enough for a one piece body, or some tops, but not both. Even though it would make a body, it would weigh too much. :(
