Keep in mind that aluminum will leave marks. As long as you dress in black, no problem.

I used 1/8" aluminum for a neck plate. Still on the guitar and working fine.

You shouldn't have any issues but as noted above Al is soft and can scratch easily. Personally I would use 2024 or 6061 if you can get it. You may get some ideas from here...link

it will distort if you crank it down
especiall if you use materila the same guage as the standard steel ones
i dont even like the steel ones as they will dig in at the corners
i use 1/8" stainless plate here
i get em laser cut for a few dollars apiece
