Better look at the Cedar top Tele

So the photos from my ipad were very bad. Here is a better look at my latest project. Wooden binding. Cedar top on a maple body. Victorian Ash neck (Tasmanian Oak) with a Sydney Blue Gum fingerboard. Ready for shellac.

It will be French polished with blonde shellac so it will darken but not change colour. The neck will be amber shellac. The fingerboard will just get a touch of linseed oil. I need to seal it then fill the back and sand down to 320. Then I'll start the polish.

The Sydney Blue Gum is great for a fingerboard and i like working with the Tassie Oak. The Blue Gum is as dense as Ebony. This is the second neck I've built like this.

I've built a Les Paul using Queensland Maple and it is beautiful but protected now right? This Maple is that imported stuff - lol.

I've just finished the side markers on the neck today and laid down the first session of shellac. Give me 10 days and this puppy will be done. Two weeks to harden up and then a good wax polish!

gday from melbourne
bonzer looking guitar there mate

dont you just love that vic ash for a neck
vic ash, tassie oak, its all just gum trees right
hard and stiff but not too heavy - nice long grain and colours up real nice over time

got to tell you i done 2 necks so far in vic ash and both guitars were real crackerjacks - you can buy hardwood studs at the 2nd hand timber yard for a few dollars each and there is 3 necks in every one

Yeah I love the Vic ash. It can be heavy though, you just need to choose wisely. What do you use as a fingerboard? This my third Vic ash neck. Two with Sydney blue and one Rosewood. Beats trying to find Yanky rock maple here and way cheaper! Where do you buy your hardwood?
