Rickenbacker Plans

Does anybody here know where they can be found? I really want to build a 330, but my googling power has been depleted.

Australian Luthier Supplies on Ebay AU lists quite a few plans, the Ric 330 isn't one of them, but they do have other models.

The plans for that 360-12 string actually look more like a 330.

Oh yeah. Why didn't I think of that? And come to think of it, someone out there probably builds Telecasters too. Fender, maybe? Well, now I feel like a schmuck. I could have just bought my '72 Deluxe instead of building it.

Completely different situation.

If you are not aware of the differences, you are welcome to email and ask: Legal@Rickenbacker.com

Can't say I didn't do my due diligence.

Gotta agree with FirstBassman, Dr. Z. Making one for yourself is OK, but RickenCorp is VERY protective of their designs and will probably sue the bejeezus out of anyone who might post or host the posting of plans (at least within the U.S. legal territory) that could lend to the counterfeiting of their products.

In fact, the reason you can buy Teles and Strat copies and download plans, etc. is because Fender didn't do what Rick does: vigorously defend their IP.

I have no intentions of selling any clone guitars that I build, unless you count the Jaguar build I'm donating to my church, and that one Tele I built for my hardwood supplier in exchange for some walnut and maple planks. No money has or ever will change hands on my clone builds. This Rickenbacker build that I am to undertake will be solely for my own personal use. The only reason I even made this thread is because there are other users on this forum that have built Ric clones, and I was merely wondering where or how they got their plans.

I get you on that, Dr. Z, but RickenCorp might care what your intentions are if you post the plans here, per your earlier post:

At that point, anyone can download and use such plans to compromise Rickencorp's IP.

Mind you, I've got a personal 350 clone project on the backburner for myself, but I won't tempt the lawsharks by putting the plans anywhere online.

I see what you are saying, but what I said was more of a joke than anything truthful - I have no intentions of buying that plan or any other plan. $30.00 is too much for a roll of paper with what is most likely an inaccurate design printed on it.

Oh come on, you don't want to pay $30 to the guy pilfering Ric's designs? How are the rest of us going to get them for free if you don't take the initiative?

Thats actually the precise reason I wouldn't buy them. Some dude is profiting off ric designs. not cool.

But you were asking for plans. Would it be OK to make Ric plans available to anyone as long as they are free?

come on guys we live in a world with many "shades of grey". now is not the time to start pointing fingers. I'm sure anyone who has built a guitar has infringed on somebody's copyright. even the "fender" stratocaster/jaguar/jazzmaster headstock shape was ripped off of bigsby, probably by leo!

having said that, it is wrong. however, if you get a copy of those plans, PM me. and I'll do the same.

P.S. does it make it any less of an offence to clone a fender because their legal department is less "protective" of their intellectual property?

My only response to that question is this: Were I to find plans for a Ric, and they came to me at no charge, yes, I would pass them along to others, for free.

Look at it this way: T. Downs makes a tele blueprint and uploads it to the internet for no monetary gain. I download said blueprint and start building and selling Tele clones for profit. Is T. Downs in any way responsible for my actions?
