The point of no return

I was never happy with the color and finish of my Alder partscaster that I built about 2 years ago. I had attempted a full trans finish but the sides had horrible dark blotches from an attempt at staining without adequate sealer. I was able to do a decent trans finish on the top and back, but the sides had to be finished opaque. It had an h'bucker neck route with an SD SM-1 neck p'up. The bridge was routed for a single coil.

I spent the better part of this morning hogging out the bridge rout to accept another SD mini 'bucker. God bless Dremel. The remaining gaps from the single coil rout were filled with wood scraps and wood putty. It'll dry for another day and I can smooth it out and refill any divots.

A chrome trim ring will cover the mini hum and some of the repair. I plan on using a cut-down MIM Standard bridge and saddles.

Plans call for RR Coral, but that could change. In the meantime I have enough parts for another, more traditional SC partscaster....Just gotta work on getting a body.

Tom
