Great steels - I had the opportunity to play one quite a bit years ago. You just made me think that maybe I could build a replica! Good luck and please post your progress...

I've got one of the triple neck models. Look forward to seeing your progress.

Have you figured out how to do the tuner and bridge assemblies yet? Spares are few and far between (especially for the 8 string models).

Well as much as i'd hate to do it i might have to go modern with the tuners. As for the bridge i have a model i can use to make 2 new ones, well the model is close haha.

Hey have been working up info on the steel and found out this if you do plan to make one as well.

Scale- 22.5''
Nut spacing- 55mm (8) = 7.86mm
Bridge spacing- 68mm (8) = 9.71mm
Pickup(s) output- 10.5 kΩ
Full Length- 28 3/4'' (73cm)
Width- 12 1/4'' (31.1cm)
Front neck thickness 2 1/4
Back neck thickness 1 3/4

this is some of the stuff i have so far on it

There was a guy posting some of his art-deco lap steels here about a year ago - really nice work. Unfortunately I can't remember his name...

I just got the May issue of Vintage Guitar Magazine. It has an article on Cindy Cashdollar with cool photos of 50s Gibson lap steels and Fender double and triple neck steels.

Well ........... making a Fender replica is good but if you want to see some really nice lap steels and consoles, take a look at George Boards.

Here's an example.........

Those George Boards look great and it seems like good prices, thanks, Jack. I think building lap steels can be quite creative, I don't know whether to go the replica route or to try some ideas of my own...

Try a little of both and let your creative side have a little of the fun
My steels have bits and parts that were inspired by some of the great steels of the long ago.

A lot of New Yorker in my Deco style

I held off for a long time before I did one the fairly familiar and common peanut shapes. I modeled the bottom bell off a Gibson EH, gave it a sexy Barbie Doll Oahu waist, and finished with a classic Weissenborn like upper bout transition.
