Looking sweet Dave! The cedar is very cool.
Hmm, odor free Varathane. The stuff we used back in high school shop sure wasn't odor free. I'm guessing it didn't have any water in it either.

Man that's really looking great Dave! I remember as a little kid my aunt had a walk in closet lined with cedar that looked like that. I used to hide in it because I loved the smell.

I love the wood - I love wood grain and the grain in that cedar is something that will likely always always make the look of the guitar interesting and new. That's going to pop in a big way. |

I'm interested in the varathane finish too, please post lots of pics! I'll be using water based finish as well, still debating on EM6000 or EM7000, or a General Finishes WB Lacquer - I just cannot spray Nitro, and it'll just be too toxic for me to deal with anyways. The build is looking great, still marveling that it's going on in your bedroom! Keep it up.

Back at it again!
Here I'm using the mouse for the 320 grit and the rubber block for the 400 (interesting that you can't get 400 to fit any sander that I could find, and the 320 for the mouse had to come from Amazon I'm using this sponge sanding block wrapped in 400 for the sides Here we are, sanded to 400 and wiped down with denatured alcohol Getting ready with the tinted clear shellac for my primer coat (otherwise I wouldn't have used a foam brush, it streaks Now for a couple of coats

You damn heathen applying shellac with a foam brush
One uses wadding wrapped in fine white linen, and make sure your appropriately dressed, shirt and tie is a must, sleeves may be rolled up an inch or two, but you may not remove your Bowler hat, that way you may get an acceptable finish. Nice job, looking great and Shellac is very underated, very easy to repair and once hard very tough and durable, just make sure you dont dribble any of your scotch on to it, Ha! I'm sure you don't spill a drop. |
