I dub thee...WolfTwang! (mod content)
Hey everyone. I have had a few people ask me about my guitar lately so I thought I would do a post detailing the process. First let me say I love Telecasters. Anyway, back in the late nineties I bought a Peavey Wolfgang Special. I really liked the neck on that guitar but it had not fit my playing style so it did not get much use. I had been wanting to build a partscaster but try to get a neck with a similar profile. So one day I have it sitting on the stand and I am looking at the thinking that it was just a slab of wood like a Tele so why not mod it. So with the help of another TDPRI member (blardie) we got to work. blardie has all the cool tools so it made the process much smoother. I was hoping to as little modding as possible but the routes for the recessed bridge and humbucker would not get covered by the tele style bride and pickguard so we did some routing, dropped a new piece in and re-routed the pickup hole and slot for the control plate along with filing in the selector switch hole and volume knob hole.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Then filled in the new wood with some grain filler and roughed up the original finish. I used Guitar ReRanch primer and Arctic White. I took several coats plus a lot of wet sanding in between to get it to where the lines between old & new woods were not so visible. ![]() ![]() ![]() Needed a pickguard so I had to design a custom one that would fit. I tried to do it completely like a tele but the top edge did not look right, so I followed the contour of the body on the top edge and went with the tele style on the bottom half. On to final assembly. I went with a EMG-T set. I had a set before and like them and because this guitar has more of a modern feel with the flatter radius neck and the Babicz bridge I thought the EMG's would be a good fit. ![]() I dub thee WolfTwang! ![]() It turn out really well. I like the feel. It now has the tele tone. It is a nice hybrid (Best of Both Worlds) I have a couple of videos on youtube with me using this guitar. One of the camera angles bleaches it out a little but you can get the gist of it. http://youtu.be/ktsX-22GY5M Anyway, I know how much you all like to Mod guitars so I hope you found this entertaining. And thanks to blardie, I couldn't have done it with out you.

The Wolftwang was a fun project and I'm glad I got to work on it with Vin. Here's my *ahem* tele.
I play in a band with Vincent and we call these our WTH guitars. Figuring that any guitarist in the audience would look at them and scratch their head trying to figure out what they are. |
