Any cool pickup rings out there?

I'm looking to add a neck pup to the $210 challenge guitar I built a few years back. Are there any cool rings out there for a std neck pup? Lots of boring chrome and gold but.... blah.

Thanks fellas.

Hey Billy,

If you have the skills to make that guitar, you have the skills to make a pickup ring. Old pickguard material has easy possibilities in lots of color and pattern variations. I did use one of those chrome neck rings on a modern Tele build with a figured Redwood top, it popped beautifully. Meditate on the Scatter Lee oracle for a while and you will come up with something creative and original.

DIY rings

I make my own:
Use a normal Pick guard to template your pickup hole and the mounting holes. Route it before you cut it down. Shape the rest to your preference. Recess your ring mounting holes.

I forgot what kind of wood this is.

'fretsonthenet' seems to have a lot of options.

http://www.fretsonthenet.com/other_parts.htm

No Fender rings listed on that page, but they're 'custom made' so I'm guessing that something could be easily fabbed for you.

wood is always a good idea

sometimes you want it to contrast the rest of the body. Sometimes you want it to blend right in.

If you don't want to roll your own, here's a good source for ready-mades: http://stores.ebay.com/Woodguarden-Wood-Pickguards
I've used the rosewood pickup rings on a couple of my Teles.

I just put some cool rings on a couple of my guitars-the cow skull ones are meant for a strat single coil-would probably fit a tele neck pickup too-Brian

Where did you find those? Especially the second pic, they'd be perfect for the gift I'm building for a metalhead friend.
