Maple Blank Question

I have a figured maple plank that's 5 feet tall by 1 3/4" thick and 9 3/4 inches wide.(1080 BF?) The guy who gave it to me said he has been walking around it for at least 10 years in his living room.

I have 2 of these planks but I decided to use some for my own builds.

I would like to sell or trade it but I have no idea how much to ask or where to post it in the classifieds.
I have a tube amp and a strat that are just dying to be owned by me so I'm trying to scrape up the funds!

that is some pretty wood. you said 1 3/3" thick. Did you mean 1 3/4"? Well, based on the other dimensions, it sounds like enough wood for at least 6-8 one piece necks, or at the very least a pair of bodies and a pair of necks. That should give you an idea of what to price it at. What would you be willing to take on a trade? I have access to other hardwoods if you are looking for other woods. I can easily get ash, maple, oak, cherry, hickory, walnut and cedar. I'd love to have a chunk of figured maple. Being located in East Texas, you don't see many maple trees around. And the maple I have found around here is kinda dull looking compared to what you're trying to get rid of... Let me know, I'm interested.

To help you in your quest:

60" x 1.75" x 9.75" = 1023.75 cu in. / 144 = 7.109375 BF.

Good luck!

Mark

Thanks, Mark!!

Dr.Zaius,

I did mean 1-3/4" :)

I am pretty much set on body woods here in Springfield, Mo. I had considered taking it to a local lumber dealer gut I didn't want to get hosed for the novice I am!

7.10 BF is only about $70.00 total anyway. I guess I will hold on to it until I overcome my fear of neck making!!

Good idea. The Fender style neck is pretty easy, considering the simplicity in design, and the fact that there are a kajillion threads documenting how to make one :)

That plank will make some pretty necks.

If you saw it up into neck blanks , fingerboards drop tops etc you will get much much more than $70. You would get that for a primo bookmatched drop top 1/4" thick.
