Bitterroot truss rod question

I ordered and received five of these. I initially thought that they would be heel adjust like on the Stew Mac hot rods.

After routing the slots for that in 5 necks, I found a really bad drawing on the bitterroot site that seems to indicate that they are peghead adjust.

If they are peg head adjusts, how do I rout and or drill so that the wrench will reach the adjustment that is recessed into the necks?

Does anyone have experience with the Bitterroot truss rods that can shed some light on this for me?

Thanks,
Guy

These are the rods that I use. They are peghead adjust, as are all two-way truss rods except for the Stew Mac hot rod (heel adjust version). The way you route for a flat headstock (like a tele) is to route a channel that ends a little before the nut (a little on the first fret side of the nut). Then when you thin down the headstock, you carefully drill a hole that goes from the top side of the headstock to the truss rod channel. You have to line it up carefully, but works well. I dont' have any photos, but should be fairly straightforward.

I use these 2-way rods exclusively. I've only ever put them in as heel adjust. Not sure why anyone would claim that a 2 way rod could only be headstock adjust....doesn't make any sense to me. I like the heel adjust myself, makes for a cleaner headstock IMO

I never thought of doing that. I mostly do tilt-back headstocks, so I am used to just running the channel right out the headstock end and stick a truss rod cover over it. I guess those who are more familiar with other build styles have a different instinct for installation. I may have to try this on a future build. Hmmm.....
