i'm not sure who else at the moment but several of my friends have had bigsby replica pickups made by other sources than fred stuart or RC allen... paul warnik and dave peterson come to mind but i'm not sure if they're still in business... i believe the two guys in NJ and indiana that built bigsby replica guitars also made their own pickups but i'm not sure about that... i would recommend to contact deke dickerson through his website and see if he can put you in touch with anyone... deke loves everything bigsby and would know... that said i doubt any of them would be much cheaper than fred's and everything fred makes is great... btw, great project! have you seen the doubleneck replica on youtube? tj

I really would like Bigsby-styled pickups. The price I was quoted was over $1000 for 3, including a 5 pole. Bigsby pickups have there own thing going, and I'd like to have that "thing". If anyone else can pipe in an alternative, I'm all ears. There's at least 3 replicas on youtube....the beehide one from Brooklyn is hilarious, and so are the commenters that don't have a sense of humor.

Started binding. This was my first time using Duco. Meh. I think I'll go back to acetone. Anyone know how long it takes Duco to set? Reports seem to vary...

Binding is looking good. I used the "red tortoise" from Custom Inlay Inc. It's very transparent, and I was worried that I'd need to back it with white or black, but it turned out very well. The "swirl" really pops in person.

If that's real celluloid give the Duco a couple days to fully set. It can really soften the binding and if you scrape it too soon it's easy to gouge and will also sink back a bit.

Thanks! It's cellulloid...I let it set for over 12 hours, and it seemed to be fine. It didn't soften the binding as much as acetone does, which is why I don't think I'll use it again. I use the melting to fix some of my slop in the pointy joints normally...this time I had to be really precise.

I was worried that the back of the headstock would need a stinger, but I think its good enough.

Redd-
I was getting ready to box the Byrdland up for you for Christmas, but then I remembered I had already promised it to my cleaning lady. Maybe I'll give you the next one. Sorry man. If I can't play as good as you, at least I can have the toys!!
