P90 location
Hi guys,
Who here would have a "bridge" location dimension for a P90 pickup in a standard Tele body? Also what is a standard pocket depth as well. Bill |

I just went through this a few weeks ago, did a lot of research to find out, pickup placement is a compromise everywhere. Some compromises are better then others, so I ended up placing the pole pieces on the line perpendicular to the strings that the center of the low E pole piece in a stock tele bridge is on. That put the bottom edge of the route (the one closes to the bridge) 1 11/16" from the center line of the string through holes. I made the pockets 11/16" deep

any reason a P90 is put in square to the strings at the bridge?..
most other single coils are slanted at the bridge... I thought I'd slant my bridge p90 ... being a single coil too... it's a thinner body...I could have gone a bit deeper 5 mm or so... to give the wires more room below PU's, plus I drilled a hole down the centreline for the neck PU wire to go into the bridge pocket and then to the yet to be routed control cavity. .instead of a 45 deg hole/rout from the neck pu to control cavity as per normal... wtf!?.. is that about?... a stupid extra rout I reckon.. |

.. these line up OK on an angle.. I guess...
both pu's have around 50mm pole spacing.. the string spacing at the bridge is 53mm... maybe more bass action further away from the bass E side saddle?. that could be one sonic difference with location/angle, I'll have to make a similar body and try the bridge PU square to see/hear for myself.. |

The bridge pickup is in the same location on both of these. If you want the measurements for the location that I use let me know and I will measure my template for you. Here is one with a Wilkinson half bridge ...and here is one with a Gotoh stop tail and TOM bridge.

(sorry, image didn't import here) Sorry to also chime in off-topic, but Big Mike, that is a very beautiful guitar.
