Problem with double cut

Hi, everybody.

I was playing with idea building me a DC tele - I saw couple pieces on this forum and really liked them.

Now, I foresee an issue with this body type and I hope you can help me to overcome it.

You know, where the lower horn meets a neck pocket on the tele? I am talking about this area:

Well, there is no much wood to go along the side of the neck heel. If I make a symmetrical cut on the upper side, wouldn't it be the same thing - no wood?

Does anybody have an advice how to overcome this issue (besides "not screwing around with the tele body")?

Thank you!

I think you've answered you own question. Neck screws hold the neck on not the small amount of wood on the bass side of the neck pocket.

You wouldn't be the first person to make a double cut Tele. I recall at least two from the last 3 or 4 years, so you should be in good company.

Another option is to make it a set-neck if you are building your own neck. However, as long as the screw are properly tightened, JWells is correct...you wont have any issues.

Use neck inserts and machine screws instead of wood screws for a more secure set of fasteners.

I'll second that! It also gives you a nice clean refined look- not a bad thing at all
