Deft Lacquer Brushing Sanding Sealer is about 10$ a quart. A quart of lacquer thinner is about 8$. Not a lot of savings there. I guess if you bought the gallon SS (30$) and gallon thinner(15$) it would work out better. But a gallon of Sherwin Williams 24% solids vinyl sealer at (30-40$) will out last the above combo 4-1 at least, I bet.
You are absolutely right on the mark Colt , there is no money savings , the Deft is just being used here to fill the fabric , and thinning it today was done just to eliminate orange peel to save me some sanding , it's easily available and it works , but it is costly for how far it goes. I gotta get to the Sherwin Williams store and get some of that vinyl sealer , do you happen to have the item # for that Colt?

Well, I pay $14.00ish a gallon for thinner for thinning lacquer, thus my comment. Else I would not have compared cost or sited a benefit. ;)

Colt, just cause you pay too much for thinner does not make my equation unfavorable ya know.

Sand of material, spray it into the air... 6 of one, 1/2 doz of the other ? LOL

Looking good either way BTW...

Sherwin Williams Vinyl Sealer 24% Solids - T67 F 3

Some lacquer to check out while you are there

Sherwin Williams ProMar Hi Bild lacquer - B44 CT 6 (This is as close as you can get to the original 50's lacquer)
Sherwin Williams LOVOC Nitrocellulose Lacquer - T70 C 60 (My favorite lacquer)
Sherwin Williams Moisture Resistant Lacquer - T70 C 20 (Great lacquer that adds a little extra protection - goes on thicker than nitro)

Thanks Colt , I will check with my local SW store this week , I still have a quart and 1/2 of Seagrave which is great lacquer , but $23.00 per quart is quite spendy .

No, I am splitting hairs over 8.00 a Q VS 14 ISH a gallon

AS IN 4 x $8.00 = $32 VS .25x $14.00 [ish] = $3.50.

You appear to have a lot more money to shed than me given that math if your consider that ratio splitting hairs.

I suggest you just ask Sherwin Williams Colt!

If you buy it buy the 5 gallon bucket, you can get your per quart cost down another dollar or so.

I called around to a few SW stores this morning , I can get the Lovoc for $40 a gallon and the 24% vinyl sealer is $60 a gallon ,
I love NY prices :( , still , that's $15 a qt. for sealer and $10 a qt.
for lacquer , so it is a good savings over Seagrave .

You can haggle with Sherwin Williams. They should be able to get that vinyl sealer down to 40$ a gallon with the LOVOC. Seams like everytime I go into a new store, they quote me 60$, and I tell them they can do better than that.

I was paying 40$ a gallon in WV.

Let's just quit making this thread about this....

I won;t even comment about cost per QT @ 5 gal purchase with respect to that...

Colt , when I went to the SW store the other day the girl at the counter said the prices I was quoted over the phone were full blown list and if I wanted to open an account , just name , number , address , buisiness type , she would ring it up at 33$ a gallon for the Lovoc , and 46$ a gallon for the 24% Vinyl Sealer , so that worked out to about 40$ per gallon , I can live with that , the same amount of Seagrave lacquer and vinyl sealer would have cost me $90. more ! So next build I will be using SW , thanks for the info Colt .

I stole your picture because I don't have a picture of the LOVOC can.

I think you will be impressed with how far that vinyl goes, and how quick that LOVOC dries to a hard durable finish.
