Your a winding fool. Makes me dizzy to see such progress. I am just working 10 hours while it's raining here in Smashville. Hope this one sounds as good as it looks.

OK , a little progress in the right direction , got the bridge pup back in , all soldered up , went over all my connections again , strung it up , tuned it up , plugged it in and checked all switch positions , both pups are working fine , both pups sound fine , the bad hum is gone , just has that normal single coil hum , not bad , only got to strum a few cords plugged in , my 2 year old grandson is staying over tonight and he is bed time bound right now , but the little I got to mess with it I liked what I heard , I did check the neck pup vs bridge pup , I wound the neck pup a little hot and was afraid it might over power the bridge but its good , its close but does not over power the bridge , I didn't even get the knobs back on , I'll get it buttoned up and get a video up as soon as I get a chance but oh la la

Thanks Dave , I know I am probably a little biased with reguards to these pickups being the first I wound and have not really got to play with them a lot , but honestly I was not expecting what I did hear , my ears are not as keen as they used to be either , but so far for me I am pretty happy with the sound from them.

Really beautiful guitar, Herb.

It must be hard, even a little frustrating, to try to listen
pickups you've wound yourself in an objective way!

Heck, if I wound a pickup and got anything other than a squeal from them, I'd be so proud. I am sure Herb has a good one. He's showing the signs of creator maximus going on there on Long Island.

Thanks Glenn , yes , it is very hard to be objective , I didn't mess with it today , had to work late and I am going to leave it be tomorrow also. I figure to go at it over the weekend a little more , the only thing I can objectively say with confidence right now is that the pickups sounded way better than I expected , I knew they would make noise , but being first pair wound I was not expecting to much , that kind of surprised me , let's see this weekend if they still do.

Ha , Mark , those were my thoughts when I started this winding quest . We'll see where it leads , thanks for the kind words .

Hey Dave , just wanted to let you know I did use a little talc on the fingers for that second winding of the bridge pup , worked like a charm , just enough every once in a while to keep my fingers dry , thanks for the tip.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but do you have final word on how everything worked out? I seriously just finished reading from start to finish and I feel like I'm missing the last few pages of the book.

Thanks for any update you have!

Welcome to the forum FTroop , glad you likes the build thread . I never did get around to a video , all I have is my smart phone for video and its not good . Well , the guitar did go to my daughter , as a matter of fact , it was back here a few weeks ago for a string change and tune up and a new case.

The pickups are good , as good as the Fender O.V's in my avatar guitar IMO , good enough that I sold a new pair of Nocasters I had , I won't be buying anymore single coils . It sounds like a tele should , lots of twang . My daughter loves it , her husband is in a local band , he and his band mates were kinda drooling over it , but my daughter wouldn't let them take it to band practice . If I can I'll try to get my son in law and his good video camera and get a video up but for now the guitar is at it's new home , it's getting played , and the new owner is happy

Thanks for the welcome and writing back, Herb!

Glad to hear that she (the guitar) has a good home and that your first pickups (we'll ignore that first bridge) met your expectations. Build threads like yours give inspiration and hope to us newbies that those ideas in our heads can make it to reality.

Best,

Brian (FTroop)
