inexpensive, yet thicker tele control plate?
Anyone here get tele parts on Ebay?
If so, can you recommend a seller that sells an inexpensive, yet thicker tele control plate? I bought an official Fender tele control plate off Ebay in the packaging (the red Fender packaging) and the plate is just so thin it's flimsy. I'm really disappointed! I know there are a ton of aftermarket tele control plates on Ebay-- anyone know which ones are slightly thicker? thanks! J. |

Beware of sizing. I've bought a few plates on ebay, from genuine Fender to asian copies. Every one is slightly different ... hole spacing, hole size, plate width, end contours (some don't mate with a standard tele pickguard).
Some sellers publish their exact dimensions, but I don't recall any thickness specs. You could always ask them. :-) |

Hey Jule, can you let me know the ebay seller name? That one looks nice!
I'd like to keep it under the $15 price (shipped). The GuitarFetish ones are about $18 shipped and they look noticeably thicker-- they have a nice side shot of it showing thickness. I like Marc's stuff alot too, bu $25-30 may be a bit pricey for me for this particular item (the guitar it's going on is definitely not a showpiece!) |

Thicker, yet flimsier? GFS states theirs is made of brass, same as Allparts (then chrome plated). So if that's the case, how can a thicker plate be flimsier? Right now the Fender one I have is half the thickness of a 3-ply tele pickguard, which makes it around .045"? Doesn't get much flimsier than that! Shame on Fender...

Huh, never knew that....
I'll have to see what the going rate is for an allparts plate and if the amt isn't that much difference, I may just go the AP route... they're pretty consistently good w/ their stuff. |

Why not make one? ...it is just 6 holes in a plate and a slot you can make with a dremel and a little cut off wheel.
I made one out of stainless last year... it cost me about $1 or $2 in material and a bunch of time. You could jack up a car with this one... (this one is 1" longer with an extra hole for the varitone) |

Would love to try it though as I've gotten alot more self sufficient with regards to guitar stuff in the past couple years. For this particular guitar, I don't even need the 3-way switch. I really just need a volume pot. Maaaaaybe a tone pot. Problem is, the tele control plate looks bare if it only has one knob on it, but I don't want to have anything on it that I'm not gonna use either... |

Try these guys they are plenty thick not as expensive and they are GREAT to deal with. They even sell fully loaded plates with 3 way, 4 way, and all kinds of toys for only like 60 bucks. All quality CTS pots and switches I have been completely happy ordering from them in the past..

brass that has that type of hue is usually loaded with more copper, but it can also be from metals other than copper and zinc being used to make it |
