Building a new Thinline

The wood for the body I'm not sure what it is found it up in the loft, been up there several years. It sort of looks like walnut but it has some light streaks through it, and when cutting it, it doesn't smell like walnut.

The top is curly ambrosia maple with a sound hole that I drew up on the PC.

The neck is gonna be a curly maple neck with a curly ambrosia maple fingerboard.

Not sure on the electronics yet.

Nice, but I would get some glue a little closer to the truss rod if I were you.

It will move closer to the truss rod when sqeezed. This keeps any glue from gettin in the truss rod channel and keepin you from ever being able to remove the truss rod if it was ever to break.

Yes, I understand that, but IMO, you won't have enough glue near the TR, where its most important. If you're worried about too much glue or glue touching the TR, just wrap the TR in cellophane wrap.

I've never had any trouble with it, I've built several necks and my dad taught me that way, he done them that way for 20 years and never had a problem.

Glued the top onto the body this morning. Probly trim it to the body this evening.

On to the neck! Trimmed the fretboard down to the neck and put the 10' radius on it. I start with a 12" radius alum. beam first to keep it strait then go to a 10" radius block.

Needed some marker dots so I turned down some ebony. Gonna shape the back here after I get some supper. Later folks, enjoy the picks!

Looks great.

I don't know what kind of body wood that is, either.

If you get a chance to do some closeup pictures we might know.

Well I'm done for the night. got the top trimmed to the body and sanded. Put a 1/8 round over on both sides. Tomorrow I'll start with some routing of the cavities. I'm not sure on the pickups yet. The ones setting on the guitar are a old set of Asat G&L pickups. They look good but don't know how they would sound. I also have a new set of GFS retrotrons. I know the GFS's sound good I've used them before. If I use the G&L's I can't go back with anything else? Gimme your opinion!!!

The body wood looks like it could be butternut. I've done a few bodies out of it. Does it get kind of fuzzy when you sand?

Well kinda, it makes really fine dust that sticks to the wood when you sand it, but wipe it off its really slick. I'll get some closer pics of it today.

Here's some closer pics of the body wood, after looking at some wood species on google i think it may be teak? On the sides of the guitar it looks like I stained it and missed some spots, but its actually coloration of the wood. I put just a little bit of butcher block oil on a rag and wiped it down.

Got the cavities routed tonight, decided on just some regular humbuckers instead of the Asat pickups. Made the Volume and Tone knob tonight also out of some of the same wood as the body is made from.
